Teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) participate in Division I Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA college football program.

The ACC sponsors twenty-five sports, and several member colleges are well regarded throughout the country. Boston College, Clemson University, Duke University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Florida State University, North Carolina State University, Syracuse University, the University of Louisville, the University of Miami, the University of North Carolina, Notre Dame University, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Virginia, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and Wake Forest University are currently members of the conference.

The 2020s Of Clemson Softball

The coronavirus pandemic affected the Tigers’ first season. Clemson’s first entire season as a school ended with a 44–8 overall record and a 29–5 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Before the season was canceled, the Tigers were 19–8 overall and 5–1 in ACC play. There was also a cancellation of the NCAA championships.

They won the regular season and the ACC Tournament, but they lost to Duke in the championship game. In the NCAA Tournament, they could not go beyond the Regional round.

SEC champion Alabama was their opponent in their Regional, and they fell to them in two games. In 2022, the team would finish fifth in the ACC with a record of 14–10, good enough for fifth place.

Despite their lower seed, they made it to the ACC Tournament’s final; however, they lost to Florida State in the Final. For the first time in softball Tournament history, they were chosen to host a regional and went undefeated in their three games.

About The Clemson Softball Program

When the Clemson softball program was introduced in March of 2017, it was a huge success. A 39-15 record in their first entire season of NCAA competition earned the Tigers a No. 10 national seed and a first-round bye in the Clemson Regional this year. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association and ESPN polled Clemson as one of the top 15 teams in the ACC tournament this year.

No. 2 seed Florida State defeated the Tigers, but they earned the right to host a regional tournament in 2022. The Tigers brought back 21 players from last year’s NCAA regional squad, including sophomore McKenzie Clark, who bats.327 and slugs.618 for the team’s top spot.

Millie Thompson, a sophomore left-handed pitcher, with a 1.69 ERA in 24 outings, including three single shutouts. Valerie Cagle has been a first-team All-ACC selection as a pitcher and a hitter, going 15-8 with 166 strikeouts and 40 RBIs.

First-year Clemson softball coach John Rittman has enjoyed an impressive start to the season. After 100 games, the Tigers softball team was 78-22, tying the women’s tennis team for the most fantastic start in school history.

Current State of The Clemson Softball Team

They are the buzz of the town now that the Clemson Tigers team has made it to the Super softball Regionals for the first time after defeating UNC-Wilmington, Auburn, and Louisiana in Clemson regional finals. It’s time for the Tigers to face off against the Big XII Tournament Champion Oklahoma State Cowgirls.

It is a best of two out of three series, winner-take-all, or in this instance, a trip to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for those unfamiliar with the Supers. Clemson Tigers and Oklahoma State Sooners will go head-to-head for the No. 7 seed in the country.

This year’s regular season disappointed many Tigers fans, particularly after the team’s success the previous year.
