Get To Know The Beavers, The OSU Softball’s Undisputed Team

The time has come for us to get to the point. The Beavers are the best softball team in the state of Oregon. Let’s look at this team’s current standing in the league and their prior results.

About The Oregon State Beavers

In NCAA Division I collegiate softball, the Oregon State softball team, the Beavers, represents Oregon State University. The squad is a member of the Pac-12, and Laura Berg is the current head coach of the Beavers. Home games are held at Kelly Fields, previously the Oregon State Softball Complex, on the university’s campus.

Who Do They Play For?

They represent one of the nation’s leading research universities, Oregon State University (OSU), located in Corvallis, Oregon. There are almost 200 undergraduate degree programs at OSU and several graduate and doctorate options. With an average on-campus enrolment of nearly 32,000 students, it is the most prominent institution in the state.

As of this writing, more than 272,000 students have graduated from Oregon State University. As an “R1: Doctoral Universities” university, it is also designated as a “Community Engagement” institution.

OSU is one of only four land-grant colleges in the United States participating in sea-grant, space-grant, and sun-grant research consortia (the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Cornell University, and Pennsylvania State University are the others). For the 2017 fiscal year, OSU earned $441 million in research money, making it the state’s top-earning research institution.

One of America’s “top” institutions was picked in a 2008 national rating of academics, athletics, and overall performance. STACK has also included the University of Oregon since then.

Current State Of The OSU Beavers

For the first time since 2006, the Oregon State softball team has made it to the Women’s College World Series, establishing history for the school. Eight teams advanced to the finals, and Oregon State is one of three unseeded teams to make an appearance in the tournament. Fourteen of the Beavers’ 22 players are first-year students.

The Oregon State Beavers qualified for the Women’s College World Series by defeating Tennessee in the NCAA Regional Rounds. The Beavers prevailed 2-to-1 in the series. Against the University of Florida, the Beavers take on No. 14. The game is scheduled to begin at Oklahoma City. If you have ESPN, you may watch the game live.

Arizona and Oklahoma State join the Gators and Beavers in the double-elimination round. In an elimination game on Friday, the losing teams will face one another, and the loser will be eliminated from the competition.

The Women’s College World Series ended for Oregon State’s incredible playoff journey in Oklahoma City. In the NCAA tournament, the Beavers were one of the last four teams to qualify, and they continued going until they were one of the last eight teams left. In yesterday’s defeat to Florida, their All-American Mariah Mazon was an unexpected absentee, and she was allowed to join the Oregon State circle this morning.

With an early lead, Oregon State was unlucky to only score one run in the top of the second inning. Arizona came back to tie the game early on, and the score remained tight the rest of the way. Mazon finished the game with a 3-3 record in six innings.

Even though Mariah Mazon’s pitch count climbed into the nineties, Arizona was able to do some damage in the late innings. The Beavers left six runners on base and couldn’t quite get the big hits they needed. The Wildcats nearly hit a long ball that just went foul, which would have scored them two more runs after they had already scored a few.

However, Mazon kept the damage to a minimum as Oregon State entered the 7th inning with three outs and was in danger of losing the game. This game was over when Arizona’s left fielder made a spectacular play in the bottom of the ninth.
