What Is The SEC?

A college sports organization in the United States, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) was formed from the Southern Conference. The Alabama Uni, the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville), Auburn University, the University of Florida, the University of Georgia, the University of Kentucky, Louisiana State University, the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, the South Carolina Uni, the University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, the University of Missouri, and Texas A&M University are among the group’s members. 

Original member Sewanee University in Tennessee withdrew in 1940, while Georgia Institute of Technology and Tulane University departed in the 1960s of the conference. In 1932, its members quit the 11-year-old Southern Conference, claiming it had become too big for a competitive balance. Athletic scholarships were initially authorized in the Southeastern Conference in 1935, and the campaign to make this a regular practice in the National Collegiate Athletic Association was spearheaded by the SEC. 

Originally divided into two divisions of six teams each, Arkansas and South Carolina joined the league in 1992, and the conference was extended to seven teams, including Missouri and Texas A&M, in 2012.

SEC: At The Moment

The quarterfinals of the SEC Softball Tournament will be held in Gainesville, Florida, on Thursday. Eight Southeastern Conference softball teams will compete on Thursday in Gainesville, Florida.

The Razorbacks clinched the SEC regular season title for the first time in Arkansas history. All four of the tournament’s top seeds will play on Thursday after receiving byes in the opening round. The Razorbacks will meet Ole Miss in the second round at 7:30 p.m.
